Week 7 NFL Picks

Thursday, October 19

Jacksonville Jaguars at New Orleans Saints -1.5

Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence feels he can play. Although the Jags have yet to announce whether Lawrence plays or not, backup C.J. Beathard is good enough to run the offense.

However, the Saints have shot themselves in the foot in at least two games this season. So New Orleans should be focused on their turf and in their stadium. Saints win and cover.

Buffalo Bills -8.5 at New England Patriots

The Patriots should have no shot of keeping this close. New England is a disaster and the defense is banged up.

Still, the Pats have the edge because this happens on their field. Not only that, but Josh Allen lists as questionable with a shoulder injury. So although we may be making a huge mistake, New England is the play at +8.5.

NFL Week 7 Pick: New England Patriots +8.5

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers -2.5

Atlanta is good enough to win this straight up. The problem the ATL faces doing so is that their strength, rushing the football, plays into Tampa’s defensive strength, stopping the rush.

The Buccaneers rank seventh against the rush when allowing just 83.8 yards pure. Atlanta ranks twenty-ninth in points scored per game. After a tough defeat against the Lions in NFL Week 6, Tampa Bay bounces back with a win and cover.

Las Vegas Raiders -3 at Chicago Bears

This should be a battle of backup quarterbacks. The Raiders are likely to go with veteran Brian Hoyer because Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t practice on Wednesday.

Chicago goes with rookie Tyson Bagent. Bagent, from Division II Shepherd College, played well versus the Vikings, going 10-of-14 for 83 yards. The pick he threw came on the final play as he heaved it into the end zone in hopes D.J. Moore could make a game winning catch.

Bagent should have the edge over the 38-year-old Hoyer. Bears to cover is the play.

NFL Week 7 Pick: Chicago Bears +3

Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens -3

The Ravens are a run first team, which is why Detroit should win their fifth straight. The Lions played zero defense last season.

This season, Detroit ranks first against the rush. Opponents average 64 yards per game on the ground versus the Lions. Baltimore will struggle if they can’t rush the football. Don’t be surprised if Detroit wins this straight up.

Cleveland Browns -2.5 at Indianapolis Colts

The Browns boast the NFL’s best defense. Although Deshaun Watson may not play, it probably won’t matter against the Colts.

P.J. Walker led the Browns to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in NFL Week 6. If Walker and the Browns had success against the Niners defense, P.J. should find massive success against the Colts. Every quarterback struggles against Cleveland. So the Browns cover.

NFL Week 7 Pick: Cleveland Browns -2.5

Washington Commanders -2 at New York Giants

The Giants played a terrific game against the Atlanta Falcons to upset the ATL in their last. Stopping the Washington Commanders from scoring more than 16 is going to be a chore, though.

D.C. has a good offense. Sam Howell has completed 67.8% of his passes and has thrown for 1,500 yards and 9 touchdowns. Sam has also thrown 6 interceptions but that’s because the Commanders’ defense is a disaster. The Giants’ don’t have a good enough offense to keep pace with Howell and Washington’s O, though. D.C. easily covers the spread.

Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks -7.5

The Cards have begun to play the way everyone expected them to play at the beginning of the season. Most believed Zona would be the worst team in the NFL in 2023.

Since upsetting the Cowboys in their third game, AZ has fallen apart, losing 3 games straight up and against the spread. Seattle is one of the best teams in the NFC. So although the spread is somewhat high, the Seahawks get the win and cover.

NFL Week 6 Pick: New Orleans Saints -1.5

Carolina Panthers at Miami Dolphins -13.5

Carolina’s defense isn’t good enough to keep the Dolphins from scoring a TD on almost every possession.

Miami’s defense should have one of their best performances of the season because rookie Bryce Young plays behind a bad offensive line. Even if this was happening in Carolina, the Fins would be the pick to cover.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Los Angeles Rams -3

T.J. Watt, the man pictured here, will have a field day against the Rams’ offensive line. Los Angeles has a good offense, no doubt, but the Rams have a major disadvantage because Watt can beat any double-team and the Rams like to run Kyren Williams out of the backfield and into the flat. Mike Tomlin had a bye week to develop strategies to get to Matthew Stafford. Pittsburgh is the team to back.

NFL Week 7 Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers +3

Green Bay Packers -1.5 at Denver Broncos

Denver should be favored. The Broncos come off an inspiring 19-8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the Broncos lost the game both SU and ATS depending on the line you got Denver at, Sean Payton’s club held Patrick Mahomes’ and KC’s offense to 19 points.

Denver’s D should be better on Sunday versus Jordan Love and Green Bay’s offense. If Russell Wilson can get something going, anything going, the Broncos win on the money line.

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs -5.5

Versus the Dallas Cowboys, the Chargers fell right into their normal routine of getting close to scoring a touchdown and making or calling stupid plays.

But LAC has a shot to bounce back. The L.A. Chargers face a rival they always play tough. Kansas City will win, but KC shouldn’t cover.

NFL Week 7 Pick: Los Angeles Chargers +5.5

Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles -2

Philadelphia’s secondary is a mess right now. The Eagles should play this without Darius Slay or Reed Blankenship.

Tua and the Dolphins torch healthy secondaries. So on Sunday night, the Dolphins should dominate an Eagles’ secondary that has zero chance of stopping Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill. Miami wins this straight up.

San Francisco 49ers -7 at Minnesota Vikings

The Niners expect Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel, and Christian McCaffrey to play. If Brock Purdy gets one back, either Deebo or Christian, and Williams starts at left tackle, the Niners cover.

Why? Justin Jefferson is on IR and Kirk Cousins plays behind an okay but not great offensive line. The above image will be on repeat on Monday night.

NFL Week 7 Pick: San Francisco 49ers -7
